This is my personal helmet that I decided to paint after getting back into karting in late 2023. A trip to Halfords, some rattle cans and a bunch of YouTube videos inspired me to give my plain white lid a face lift. I learned a lot of lessons, but it also re-ignited the passion I had as a child to become a helmet painter.
A Koden helmet painted in the colours of Attaq Motorsport for their team owner Max.
A rear spoiler was also added.
Chris sent his old GP3 for a retro make over. Upon receiving the helmet it was obvious this was a restoration job, but fortunately it's new life is going to be in a display case, rather than on a race track. Which meant filler could be used to remove the worst of the knocks and scratches before it could be fully sanded and primed.
Chris's brief was simple. "A retro design but definitely NO green"
A nice silver and blue design was decided upon with a 90's style crosshatch pattern on the top.
Finished off with a period blue Cara-Coat visor this helmet looks like it got teleported from the 1990's.
A last moment opportunity arose for Cameron Crockett from Somerset to attend the Rotax World Finals in Bahrain. Having never had a painted helmet before, he was looking for a new lid fit for the occasion.
Racing on the world stage isn't cheap so sponsors stepped in to ensure Cameron was on the grid in the Middle East looking the part. Cameron was insistent that his sponsors were added to the helmet.
Colours were chosen in accordance with Cameron's team (DM Racing) and the other sponsors were added around the crown. As a finishing touch a Union Jack and (Crockett) Rocket was added to the back.
